Dear GLBC Friend:

As Chair of the largest state black caucus in the nation, the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC), it is with great pleasure that I invite you to attend the Vision 20/20: Creating Public Policies and Community Partnerships that Dismantle Health Care Disparities in the African American Community Healthcare Symposium.  This event will be held from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2013, at Georgia Regents University, Summerville Campus, 2500 Walton Way, Augusta, GA  30309.

This symposium is aimed to address issues related to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act, signed into law on March 23, 2013.  Other discussion topics will include:  Georgia’s Healthcare Budget and Its Implications; Chronic Disease Management; Medicaid Expansion; Mental Health/Substance Abuse Status; and Small Business and Tax Implications.

African American communities experience many disparities as it relates to cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. The goal of this symposium is to bring together stakeholders from across the state representing various organizations that have influence in the Black Community. Together, it is my goal that we can create a strategic plan that will dismantle these disparities by crafting public policies that will garner greater accessibility to health care and extend health care coverage.  As a leader in the community, your attendance and participation at this event is key to its outcome and next steps.”

There is no cost to attend the Symposium.  However, we do ask that you let us know you’re coming so we can plan for the luncheon accordingly. Visit to register for this event.
Should you have questions or require additional information, please contact the GLBC office at 404.651.5569.  We look forward to seeing you on July 8th!
